As all independent theatre makers will know, one has to ‘hit the ground running’ in the New Year (as if our feet ever really left the ground…). At HTC, we consider the onset of the New Year the perfect time for re-engaging and reconnecting with our patrons, after the disorientation we all face after the festive season.
During this time, we implement one of our Digital Initiatives, which we refer to as our ‘start-of-year programming.’ This is free online programming that we offer our social media followers to kick-start the year and thank patrons for their loyalty. Whenever logistics allow, we reserve January, February, and March solely for this recalibration process.
Although it does give us a little extra time until we are fully prepared to announce our next production, this is not just ‘buffer,’ or ‘filler’ content!
Beyond reconnecting with our audience, we also use this time to highlight and showcase local talent and champion the importance of creative texts (both foundational classics and new/original works). In doing so, we also get to reconnect with and grow our talent directory, as we engage with old, long-standing contacts and form brand new ones — which always prove useful for future endeavours (even years in advance).
This year, we are kicking things off traditionally with one of our popular online initiatives, ‘Monologue Mondays.’ For every remaining Monday of January (at 6 PM AEST), we will be posting video monologues performed by an array of exceptionally talented, up-and-coming Brisbane actors across our social media platforms (FB, IG, YT).
We invite you to follow along and engage with ‘Monologue Mondays,’ and to stay connected with us as our ‘start-of-year’ online programming continues through February and March.
